walkmen.jpg Sometimes, no matter how exceptional a band might be, they languish in obscurity when they should be conquering the world, Darkness style. Pity poor Walter Martin and Matt Barrick then, for they have suffered through 9 years and two bands worth of indifference. Their previous band Jonathan Fire*Eater groaned under the weight of critical adoration upon the release of their debut album, but were neglected in the wake of Britpop's crashing and burning around the same time. The band later collapsed under the weight of their perceived commercial failure (the perils of signing to a major label!). Now, as two-fifths of The Walkmen, the pair seem doomed to repeat history. Debut album, Everyone Who Pretended To Like Me Is Gone, while every bit as accomplished and majestic as, say, Interpol's Turn On The Bright Lights, failed to loosen the indie public's wallets. They're even from New York, and as such were au fait with the zeitgeist. Like fellow ignored pop geniuses XTC, their schtick seems to both coincide and remain at odds with the current music scene, which is hardly their fault, and certainly not something that should stop you from liking them.

Second album, Bows + Arrows, delivers more of their classic Joy Division-tinged melodrama. You and your hair metal-loving friends might like it.

I'm really glad that good music is being put on this site once again. The Walkmans are cool. Yo!

"au fait with the zeitgeist?" go masturbate you loser..... that's tantamount to a malapropism.

I hope you get cancer and die.

I love it how people automatically assume that I'm some bedwetting indie loser. And male, for that matter.

Comment posted by: secretpint at March 15, 2004 08:54 PM

alright, here's a list of the reasons you are a cockhead

1. nothing from alan's original post indicates any assumptions about gender. women can masturbate too, dickhead.

2. nobody thinks you are a loser for the music you like (although it certainly demonstrates a contrived desire to distance yourself from the mainstream, rather than simply posting music you enjoy). People hate you becuase you write things like "au fait with the zeitgeist" which belies an insecurity which you have to remedy with these juvenile displays of "obscure" english. you are a poser.

3. Hence, we would like you to fuck off and die, and take your try hard white boy music with you.

I think you are a loser

I'm not going to continue with this because internet arguments are pointless, and I'd just like to add that I'm sorry if anyone was offended by my raping of the English, German and French languages.

Graduate and Alan can both fuck off.

I can just feel the love here ;)

I guess if you don't like someone's post, you could always ignore it and think up a great post of your own. I'm sure someone on the channel will help you post it.

I take, by far, the most offence from the suggestion that i am a Young Liberal. Or even a Young Liberal sympathiser. Or even someone who once thought, long ago, even for a fleeting second, that the Young Liberals were even slightly less repugnant then the very worst scum of the universe.

Everything else you said about me is quite true.

Where do you get the idea that i am a Young Liberal?

Comment posted by: ExistAngst at March 18, 2004 11:16 PM

Fucking hell. We don't seem to be very well liked at the University of Melbourne.
